White Sox place SP Lucas Giolito, recently acquired OF AJ Pollock on IL

AJ Pollock was acquired by the Chicago White Sox less than two weeks ago in a head-turning trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Lucas Giolito started Chicago's 2022 season on Opening Day in Detroit with four scoreless innings before exiting with an abdominal injury.

Now both Pollock and Giolito are officially on the 10-day injured list and join starting pitcher Lance Lynn on the shelf. Pollock — whose miscue in the outfield last week led to a walk-off win for the Tigers — is nursing a strained hamstring.

A former first-round draft selection, Pollock spent the first seven years of his career from 2012 to 2018 with the Arizona Diamondbacks before signing with the Dodgers in January 2019. His best season came in 2015 when he finished with career-highs in runs scored (111), hits (192), doubles (39), RBI (76), stolen bases (39), batting average (.315) and on-base percentage (.367), while earning his only Gold Glove and All-Star nod.

Giolito — who signed a one-year, $7.45 million contract in early April to avoid arbitration — went 11-9 with a 3.53 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 201 strikeouts across 178 2/3 innings pitched in 2021. He's spent almost his entire six-year MLB career with the South Siders after being selected 16th overall by the Washington Nationals in the 2012 draft and playing in six big league games in 2016.

The 27-year-old's best season was in 2019, when he went 14-9 with career-best numbers in ERA (3.41), WHIP (1.06) and strikeouts (228), while finishing sixth in the AL Cy Young voting earning his first All-Star berth.
