White Sox outfielder Luis Robert leaves game with apparent injury

White Sox phenom Luis Robert left Chicago's game early Tuesday after trying to make a diving catch in the seventh inning, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. Robert was “shaking his right hand,” per Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times. The White Sox replaced him with Luis Gonzalez.

While it’s unclear whether this will prove to be a serious injury, any notable absence for Robert, 23, would be a significant blow to the White Sox. The long-hyped prospect has more than lived up to the billing in his first major-league season and has emerged as a serious American League Rookie of the Year candidate. Through the initial 95 plate appearances of his career, Robert has slashed .276/.330/.517 (130 wRC+) with five home runs, four stolen bases and 1.1 fWAR.

Aside from Robert and Gonzalez, Adam Engel is the only member of the White Sox who has played center field this year. However, the White Sox placed Engel on the injured list Monday because he may have come into contact with someone who has the coronavirus.
