White Sox Avoid Arbitration with Adam Engel

Reports indicate that the Chicago White Sox and Adam Engel have avoided arbitration and settled at roughly $2 million. The outfielder has one more year of arbitration eligibility next offseason before he reaches free agency in 2024.

Adam Engel slashed .252/.336/.496 in 140 plate appearances and accumulated a 1.5 bWAR in 39 games. Engel was limited due to a hamstring injury that plagued him during the course of the 2021 season.

During the offseason, Engel underwent a procedure to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. According to Rotoballer’s daily MLB Injury Tracker, he is currently listed as questionable when the White Sox take on the Tigers on April 8.

Health will be key for Engel in 2022. He’s improved at the plate over the last few seasons despite the plethora of injuries. Engel’s upside is his gold glove caliber defense at all three outfield positions. Having a versatile outfielder with the ability to come off the bench as a defensive replacement becomes all the more important given the White Sox current outfield depth chart.
