Watch: Braves star becomes MLB's new home run leader

Marcell Ozuna continues to rake this season.

The Braves DH was hitting .306 with 10 home runs headed into Wednesday's contest against the Boston Red Sox, and he grabbed the tie for the MLB home run lead in just two at bats.

With the game just underway in the bottom of the first, Ozuna broke the scoreless tie with a three-run blast that gave Atlanta a commanding lead.

After Orlando Arcia put another ball into the seats, the Braves held a 4-0 lead. With the score still 4-0 in the bottom of the third, Ozuna decided he wasn't done yet.

The solo shot gave the Braves a 5-0 lead that they still hold with the game in the fifth inning.

Ozuna's second home run of the evening also put him back in the major league lead for home runs, with the Atlanta slugger hitting 12 balls out of the yard so far in 2024.

The homers on Wednesday gave Ozuna his second and third homers of May. His three homers in the first five games of May are a welcome sight, as he hit only one home run in the last 11 games the Braves played in April.

Ozuna will, of course, have at least two more plate appearances on Wednesday night to see if he can add to his home run total for the season, but if he can consistently produce power numbers like he has to start the month, Atlanta's offense will just be more dangerous than ever before. Ozuna's home run totals are especially pleasing due to the slow starts of Austin Riley, Ronald Acuna and Matt Olson.
