Twins thump Royals; Buxton, Kepler and Solano go deep
USA TODAY Sports

Byron Buxton, Max Kepler and Donovan Solano each homered in the Minnesota Twins' 9-3 win over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday.

Solano went 3-for-4 with a homer and two doubles. Buxton also had three hits and Kepler went 2-for-4 with four RBI, including a three-run homer that gave the Twins a 4-0 lead in the third inning.

Buxton and Solano homered back-to-back in the fifth inning.

Kenta Maeda was excellent on the mound, striking out nine Royals over seven innings. The only damage against him was Bobby Witt Jr.'s two-run homer in the fourth inning.

The Twins are now 44-43, one-and-a-half games ahead of Cleveland pending Cleveland's outcome Tuesday night against the Braves.
