Twins place Alex Kirilloff on IL with inflammation in surgically repaired wrist

An old familiar foe is bothering Minnesota Twins starting left fielder Alex Kirilloff early this spring.

According to The Associated Press (h/t ESPN) and Do-Hyoung Park of the official MLB website, Minnesota manager Rocco Baldelli confirmed before Wednesday's 7-0 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers that Kirilloff has been placed on the 10-day injured list with inflammation in his surgically repaired right wrist.

During his rookie season last year, Kirilloff hit .251 with eight home runs, 11 doubles, a triple and 34 RBI before he had an operation to fix a ligament tear that prematurely ended his campaign in July. The 24-year-old had a rough go of it thus far this month before Wednesday's development, as he went 1-for-17 with a single and seven strikeouts across five games before he was scratched from the lineup for Wednesday's encounter.

"There's no way to know, really, in this case," Baldelli said about Kirilloff's potential return to the lineup. "I wouldn't really want to say. Obviously, we're hopeful and we have reason to believe that AK is going to be able to play. That's from all of the doctors' opinions that he's seen. And it does go down. He is able to play for periods of time and really swing the bat and feel good."

In a corresponding roster move, Minnesota recalled outfielder Trevor Larnach from Triple-A St. Paul.

The 2-4 Twins next play at the 3-3 Boston Red Sox on Friday.
