Torey Lovullo Downplays Injury Concerns Surrounding Eduardo Rodriguez
Rick Scuteri-USA TODAY Sports

Against the Cubs on Tuesday night, Diamondbacks’ starter Eduardo Rodriguez departed after pitching one shutout inning.

Rodriguez attempted to head out for a second inning but was escorted off accompanied by a trainer following a few warmup pitches. The Diamondbacks then confirmed that Rodriguez was experiencing discomfort in his left lat.

With opening day just a little more than a week away, this is not the news you want to hear concerning one of the best arms in your rotation. However, Torey Lovullo did not seem too worried postgame on Tuesday.

Lovullo described his concern as “minimal” for the moment, admitting that there have been instances where his concern has been much higher when removing a starting pitcher early from a game.

The D-backs manager then acknowledged that the fact it is still unknown whether Eduardo Rodriguez needs screening is a positive sign.

In spring training this year, Rodriguez has allowed 8 earned runs in 8 innings of work off 13 hits and 4 walks.
