The Kansas City Royals Are Making Noise
USA Today Sports

It’s only mid-April, but the Royals haven’t been silent. They have the highest run differential and are in the top five in many categories, including wins, home runs, ERA, stolen bases, and quality starts. The Kansas City Royals are also currently in first place in the AL Central Division.

The Kansas City Royals Are Coming Out With A Bang

Let’s Look At the Stats

The Kansas City Royals were on a seven-game winning streak before the New York Mets handed them a 6-1 loss on Friday evening. But they returned strong with an 11-7 victory, as Bobby Witt Jr. scored four times and Salvador Perez homered. That home run by Perez was also his career 250th home run. Of course, both players mentioned are leaders on the team in terms of putting up impressive numbers. Shortstop Witt Jr. has a .339 batting average, an OBP of .397, and 21 hits. Perez has four home runs and 15 RBIs. Seth Lugo has been solid in pitching, with a 2-0 record and a 1.45 ERA. The Royals are ranked fourth in home runs with 19, fourth in runs with 84, and fourth in ERA with 3.09.

The Royals are in sole possession of first place in the American League Central, and the scoreboard in April has been enjoyable for Royals fans to watch. They are 10-5 for the first time since 2016. There are only four teams with at least 10 wins thus far: the New York Yankees, the LA Dodgers, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Royals.

Game three of the series will determine if the Royals can seal the series win against the Mets. They have a strong chance with Cole Ragans on the mound, who’s looked like an emerging ace. Ragans has been solid this season so far. He has thrown 17.1 innings in three starts, giving up 5 runs and a 2.60 ERA, with 21 strikeouts. This Kansas City Royals lineup has been crushing the ball all season, with five guys on the roster hitting over .250. Jose Butto is on the mound for the Mets. So far, he has only pitched in one game this season, going 6 innings with 1 earned run versus the Detroit Tigers. The Royals certainly have an all-around stronger offense compared to the Tigers.

Can the Royals Continue to Spoil With Success?

The Kansas City Royals have gone off to a strong start early in the 2024 regular season. Taking two out of three games from the Mets would surely add to their hot streak. But it is still early in the season, so can the Royals continue with their impressive numbers? They’ve certainly had a lot to show for the month of April, as it’s been strong for them in many categories, and both offense and pitching have been robust for them.
