Two-time World Series champion and 2021 World Series MVP Jorge Soler is heading to the Bay Area this season. Soler and the San Francisco Giants have agreed to a 3-year deal worth up to $42 million.

Last season with the Miami Marlins, Soler was a key asset at the designated hitter position. He helped the Chicago Cubs win their first World Series in over 100 years. A few years later, he was traded from the Kansas City Royals to the Atlanta Braves. During the 2021 World Series against the Houston Astros, in 20 at-bats, Soler collected six hits, three of those being home runs, with six runs batted in. This was enough to award Soler as the World Series MVP. The 31-year-old Cuban outfielder hit 36 home runs last season, the second most of his career. If he can do close to those numbers this season, then the Giants should have no problem making the playoffs.

This right-handed batter would rarely hit the baseball opposite field. Five of Soler’s 24 doubles were hit the opposite field, as were seven of his 36 home runs. Out of any pitch thrown, he was most successful in hitting fastballs. He had 76 hits and 20 home runs off of fastballs alone. During 2023, he hit the 12th farthest home run at 468 feet. His power-hitting abilities make him such a unique player, and San Francisco has to feel lucky Soler is now with their team.

Jorge Soler 2023 Stats

Jorge Soler played in 137 games last season with the Miami Marlins. In 504 at-bats, he recorded 126 hits, 36 home runs, and 75 runs batted in. He walked 66 times and had one stolen base, all with a .250 batting average. His play in the designated hitter role was crucial for the Marlins. Miami finished the season at 84-78, taking the fifth seed in the NL postseason bracket. The Philadelphia Phillies eliminated them in two games during the NL Wild Card series. While Soler struggled in that series, look for him to step up his play in 2024.
