Ride Ohtani and Angels for one last SGP

We've done a lot with baseball this season. Future bets, single-game bets, player prop bets, parlays, etc. You get the point. I could go on and on but I won't. However, with one last regular-season game remaining, we're going to do one final same-game parlay. SGPs have been around for just about a year or so via online sportsbooks, and we're going to take one last crack at one before the playoffs start.

With Shohei Ohtani on the mound, you should never bet against the Angels. And that's why we begin our final regular-season SGP with the Angels over the Athletics. Ohtani fanned 10 over eight scoreless innings in his last start, which happened to be against the A's, and don't expect the result to be any different on Wednesday in the final game of the regular season.

Ohtani might not be the AL MVP — that's a discussion for a different day — but make no mistake about it, since coming over from Japan, this is the best we've seen him on the mound. Ohtani is 15-8 with a 2.35 ERA in 27 starts and finished the month of September 4-0 with an ERA just over one in five starts. That's really good, even for Ohtani.

And against the worst offense in the American League, you'd be a fool to not take the Angels. Not only does Oakland have the worst record in the AL, but they've also scored the second-fewest runs in baseball. All I have to say is good luck against Ohtani because it's not looking too good for Oakland.

This leads us to our second leg, Oakland under 5.5 runs. Hate to sound like a broken record here, but Oakland stinks offensively. Not only have they scored the second-fewest runs in baseball, but they also have the lowest batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS in baseball.

Yikes, I know. That's not bad, that's pitiful. In 17 games vs. the Angels, Oakland has scored six or more runs against them just once. Hard to imagine but it's true. This is why Oakland under 5.5 runs is the most confident of our three legs. They might have a chance if Ohtani exits early, but with how well he's pitched as of late, that's a long shot.

As for the final leg of our SGP, we're going with Mike Trout to record a hit. Trout went 2-for-4 on Tuesday, and has hit safely in 10 of his last 12 games. Trout has looked like his old self since coming off the injured list in mid-August, and it's worth putting money on him to record at least one hit on Wednesday. Especially with rookie Ken Waldichuk pitching. Waldichuk is 1-2 with an ERA over six in his first six pro starts, and despite pitching better over his last two starts, I don't expect him to be too successful against Trout. There's a chance Waldichuk just walks him, but Trout doesn't really walk that much, which is why we're taking Trout to pick up at least one hit.

The Bet: Los Angeles Angels moneyline, Oakland Athletics under 5.5 runs AND Mike Trout > 0.5 Hits (+100 odds via DraftKings)

Brady, Gisele hire divorce lawyers — The New York Post reports that future Hall of Famer and seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady and his wife, supermodel Gisele Bundchen, have hired divorce lawyers. The Post report states that marital discord caused Brady's 11-day training camp hiatus and that the two have been living separately. Brady eventually will work for Fox Sports as the No. 1 analyst for NFL games, at a reported salary of $37.5 million per year. Brady's Buccaneers are currently 2-2 on the season and 10/1 favorites to win the Super Bowl.

Two owners step aside during NWSL investigation — Portland Thorns owner Merritt Paulson and Chicago Red Stars owner Arnim Whisler of the National Women's Soccer League are both stepping away from decision-making roles until findings are released from an ongoing investigation into numerous reports of sexual misconduct and abuse around the league. The NWSL just finished its 22-game regular-season schedule and postseason play is set to begin on Oct. 16.
