Red Sox manager Alex Cora: There's 'no paranoia' about sign stealing anymore

As Major League Baseball tries to navigate its newest scandal involving pitchers using sticky substances to enhance their spin rate, it appears sign stealing is no longer a significant concern. 

At least, according to Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora. 

"Now, there's no paranoia," Cora said, according to the Boston Globe's Alex Speier.

Cora was suspended the entire 2020 season for his involvement in the Houston Astros' sign-stealing scandal while serving as the team's bench coach.

The Red Sox were also punished in 2017 for using Apple watches to steal signs, though that was when John Farrell was manager. 

Cora added that from 2017-19 "there was a lot of paranoia" about sign stealing because many teams were doing it, similar to how many pitchers are now allegedly using foreign substances. 

MLB implemented new rules and penalties entering the 2020 season to prevent clubs from using video to steal signs illegally and has not handed down any punishment since.
