Rangers Could Get More Bullpen Help From Duffy

ARLINGTON, Texas — Pitcher Danny Duffy threw a bullpen session at Globe Life Field on Sunday afternoon, with Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy in attendance.

Duffy has been on an injury rehab stint with Double-A Frisco since June, but Bochy indicated Thursday that Duffy may soon be in a position to help the Rangers.

“He’s come along really well,” Bochy said. “He feels good about where he’s at.”

Duffy, a former starter, is a left-hander the Rangers envision as potential relief help once he’s ready for a call-up.

With the RoughRiders, he is 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA in 10 games (all in relief). He’s thrown 13 1/3 innings, giving up 11 hits and five runs. He’s struck out 14 and walked 14.

Duffy, an 11-year veteran with a 68-68 record, joined the Rangers after spending nearly his entire career with Kansas City. With the Royals, he won a World Series ring in 2015.

His best season with Kansas City came in 2016, when he went 12-3 in 42 games, including 26 starts, with a 3.51 ERA.

He’s been out of baseball since the summer of 2021 with arm issues, including surgery for a torn flexor tendon. He spent the entire 2022 season with the Dodgers organization and threw as high as Triple-A Oklahoma City but was unable to get a call-up to Los Angeles.

When the Rangers broke Spring Training he remained behind to continue his rehab.
