Padres place former Rookie of the Year, one-time All-Star OF Wil Myers on IL

Three years after being selected by the Kansas City Royals in 2009 MLB June Amateur Draft, Myers was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays in a December 2012 blockbuster that also included a trio of former All-Star hurlers in Jake Odorizzi, James Shields and Wade Davis, among others. Myers spent the 2013 and 2014 seasons with the Rays -- playing in 175 regular season games -- and captured the 2013 AL Rookie of the Year award after producing 13 home runs, 53 RBIs, 98 hits and a still career-best .293/.354/.478 slash line across 335 at-bats covering 88 contests.

The 31-year-old was traded again in December 2014, this time to the Friars in a monster three-team deal also involving the Washington that featured future All-Star Trea Turner along with a host of other players. Myers was limited to 60 games in 2015, but had arguably his best season in 2016.

That year, the Thomasville, NC native had a career-high 599 at-bats and 157 games played, while also producing career highs in RBIs (94), hits (155), runs scored (99) and stolen bases (28) while knocking 28 home runs and making the NL All-Star team as well. Myers recorded his second consecutive season with at least 20 home runs (a career-best 30) and 20 stolen bases in 2017 and posted exactly 29 doubles for the second straight year as well.

Myers played in just 83 games in 2018 after going on the disabled list multiple times with various injuries, but bounced back to suit up for 155 contests in 2019, hitting 18 home runs and stealing 16 bases. Myers had a productive year during the abbreviated 2020 campaign, racking up 15 home runs and 40 RBIs in only 55 games, before collecting 17 home runs and 63 RBIs across 442 at-bats in 146 games in 2021.
