Orioles legend Cal Ripken Jr. ‘excited’ to part of team’s new ownership group

The name of Ripken Jr. needs no introduction. The MLB Hall of Famer spent his entire career in Baltimore and established himself as one of the greats of the game.

The 63-year-old Maryland native would take to his social media account and express his excitement for this deal. He would inform how it was a special day for him.

The Orioles have been a part of my life since I was a child, and this is a special day. I look forward to this opportunity and will do whatever I can to help the organization. Let’s go O’s! NBA Hall of Famer Grant Hill also part of Orioles ownership

As the baseball fans count down the days for the new season, the excitement level among the Baltimore Orioles fanbase is on a different level. This is due to the fact of the team having new owners. While, their legend Cal Ripken Jr. is already a part of the new ownership group, there are some other marquee names joining him as well including NBA Hall of Famer Grant Hill.

Along with Ripken Jr., Hill will be one of the minority owners of the team. Apart from them, former Baltimore Mayor Kurt Schmoke, Washington Spirit owner Michele Kang and former Mayor of New York City, Mike Bloomberg are the other minority owners of the this new ownership group.

The new ownership group will acquire a 40 per cent stake at first. The full ownership of the team will be transferred when Peter Angelos, the patriarch of the Angelos family passes away.

This development comes at a time when the Orioles enjoyed a successful campaign last time out. They finished the season with a 101-61 record, won their first American League East title since 2014 and reached the postseason. Unfortunately they suffered early elimination from the ALDS.

The team backed by young stars such as Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson would be expected to shine again. What changes will this new ownership bring to the team now remains to be seen.
