Nick Ahmed, although no longer part of the team, has been honored as the nominee for the 2023 Roberto Clemente Award by the Diamondbacks, marking his ongoing impact beyond the baseball field.

The Roberto Clemente Award stands as one of baseball’s most prestigious accolades, shining a spotlight not on a player’s on-field performance, but on their exceptional contributions to the community through philanthropy and outreach.

Ahmed spent all 10 seasons of his career in Arizona. Not only did he take home two Gold Gloves, but he also spent a tremendous amount of time and effort helping around the Phoenix community. His commitment to charitable endeavors was exemplified by his instrumental role in establishing the St. Mary’s Food Bank in partnership with the Diamondbacks. This initiative saw the opening of a vital food pantry in a school near Chase Field.

Each year, as the baseball season approaches its conclusion, every team selects one nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award. Fans have the opportunity to cast their votes for the nominee of their choice at MLBTogether.com/clemente21 until October 1st. The announcement of the award recipient will be made during the World Series.

The previous season saw Justin Turner of the Dodgers receive the Clemente Award. It’s worth noting that the Diamondbacks’ last Clemente Award winner was Curt Schilling, who received the honor back in 2001.
