MLB Legend Shares Bombshell Thoughts on Cubs' Managerial Decision

When a team like the Chicago Cubs makes a splashy move like firing their current manager to hire their rival team's former manager, that will generate a lot of headlines.

Many people have weighed in with their thoughts about the decision to hire Craig Counsell and move on from David Ross.

Most people understand the decision to go get someone who is considered the best manager in baseball.

However, one MLB legend isn't buying it.

Former player and manager, Ozzie Guillen, appeared on 670 The Score's "Mully and Haugh Show" and share his bombshell thoughts on the situation.

When asked if Counsell was an upgrade over Ross, he said, "Nope. If you don't have a ring on your finger, you're nobody. You can be Manager of the Year, and next year, you can be fired."

Guillen became known more for his antics during his managerial career than what he produced on the field, despite winning his own Manager of the Year award in 2005 with the Chicago White Sox.

"In my view, I think [Ross] did a tremendous job with the Cubs. I think they did more than expected. I think he was great with the people, great with the players. I was really shocked," he added.

One thing that Guillen does have familiarity with is performing in Chicago. He was both a player and manager for the White Sox so can speak to his experience performing under that pressurized spotlight.

It's something that Counsell didn't have to deal with as the Milwaukee Brewers' manager.

"Now he's going to be in the biggest market, biggest media with the biggest critics in baseball," Guillen said.

That's a fair point.

This aggressive move from the organization is something only teams who feel like they should be winning now would do. If the Cubs struggle under the weight of these new expectations, many people can now point to Counsell as the reason why.

Only time will tell if this is move will pay off for Chicago or if it's a mistake like the MLB legend suggested.
