MLB best bets: Wiesguy's 2 Picks and a Prop for 5/30

Friday was a winning day but we still have some work to do to get back in the black — see below, the number do not lie.

All 30 teams are in action tonight as MLB takes center stage until the NBA Finals start on Thursday night. I am not sure there are any real series to be excited about. I suppose the Phillies vs. Mets will push one of those teams up in the standings but the Braves are looking like the class of the NL East, and then some.

It is a quiet Tuesday, but the betting board is buzzing with as many options as an NFL Sunday. Let's pick some winners, shall we.

MLB Picks for Tuesday, May 30

Favorite
Texas Rangers -130 (at Detroit Tigers)

There are a lot of heavy favorites tonight, including the Dodgers at -320 against the Nationals. I was looking for real value and to avoid the run line and the Rangers fit that scenario tonight. They are 18-11 on the road this season and fading the Tigers was an easy call. Texas shut out Detroit last night and has won 4 of Martin Perez's last 5 starts. This is a mismatch and we are not being required to pay too much of a premium for it.

Underdog
Pittsburgh Pirates +125 (at San Francisco Giants)

The Pirates lost the series opener yesterday last night and it dropped them under .500. May has not been kind but I do not see the case for the Giants demanding a premium at home tonight. Johan Oviedo has been winnable in his last 3 starts for Pittsburgh and takes on John Brebbia, who will open for SF. The last time he did they backed him up with Sean Manaea who has been mostly a disaster on the other side of the Bay. For what it is worth the Bucs have a winning record against lefty starters this season, which could be what they are essentially getting.

Prop
Zack Greinke Under 14.5 Outs +145

Greinke might be a Hall of Famer but this season is not going well. One of the reasons for that is that he is getting hit hard on the road - ERA of 6.66. The Cardinals are 8th in the Majors in scoring and should enjoy lining up Greinke's soft stuff this evening. I know that number he says he is not going to make it through even 5 innings, which is rare, but that is why we are getting the payoff.
