Mets Injury Update: Brooks Raley

He's getting close to a return.

Mets reliever Brooks Raley will begin a rehab assignment on Wednesday night with Double-A Binghamton.

Raley has been on the IL with elbow inflammation since April 28. He dealt with a hamstring issue in Spring Training, which forced him to withdraw from participating in the World Baseball Classic.

Raley has served as the lone lefty reliever in the Mets' bullpen this season and one of their main high-leverage arms.

The southpaw has a 4.76 ERA this year, but pitched to a 2.70 ERA in his previous seven appearances.

The Mets acquired Raley from the Tampa Bay Rays in the offseason via trade.

It's unknown how many rehab appearances Raley will need before rejoining the Mets' 'pen. But it is clear that his return is on the horizon, as he begins a rehab assignment tonight.
