Mets agree to terms with old friend Julio Teheran

The best years of Julio Teheran’s career came with the Atlanta Braves. He came up with the club in his early 20s over a decade ago, quickly establishing himself as the ace of the staff. He was named to two All-Star teams while with the Braves and was one of the few players that stuck with the organization throughout the entirety of the rebuild.

Julio Teheran did get to see the club return to the postseason in 2018, but unfortunately, he was not part of the team that won the franchise’s first World Series since 1995. His contract option was declined following the 2019 season after posting a more than respectable 3.81 ERA over 174.2 innings.

Teheran would go on to sign a one-year deal with the Angels that offseason, an organization where pitchers go to die, and he was no different. Teheran was dreadful for the Halos, posting a 10.05 ERA during the shortened season. After that, he spent a brief bit with the Tigers before pitching in the Independent League and in Mexico.

Eventually, Julio Teheran worked his way back to the majors last year with the Milwaukee Brewers, where he posted a 4.40 ERA over 14 appearances (11 starts). Now, he’ll join the Braves division rivals in New York, who are desperate for any kind of boost they can get following an 0-4 start of the season.

I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for Julio Teheran. What’s amazing is he’s still just 33-years-old even though he’s pitched in the majors since 2011. As long as he’s not playing against the Braves, I hope nothing but the best for him in New York.
