Logan O'Hoppe Wants to Forget 'Bad Taste in His Mouth' From 2023 Season
USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Angels will enter the new season with a re-established sense of hope. Despite losing Shohei Ohtani over the offseason, the Angels feel good about where they are as a team.

They have a good amount of depth across the roster and have a few solid, young players that they are looking forward to seeing grow. One of those is catcher Logan O'Hoppe, who took a major step forward in 2023.

O'Hoppe spoke about what he's looking forward to for this coming season. He mentioned that he has a bad taste in his mouth from the lack of success the team saw last year.

“I don't know what it means but I love it,” O’Hoppe said. “I definitely still have that bad taste in my mouth from last year and none of us forgot what that was like. And we all talked a lot over the offseason to put a plan in place and change it going forward. Even on Day 1, I felt like we've been doing it for weeks. Just keeping in touch with one another and talking about the right things. So it's on the right track.”

In 51 games with the Angels last season, he hit .236 with 14 home runs and 29 runs batted in. O'Hoppe missed a good chunk of the year dealing with an injury, but he made the most of his opportunity once he returned.

The Halos view him as their catcher of the future, so his development is crucial this season. Much like him, the front office is looking to be a more competitive team in 2024, and how much he grows will directly impact that success.
