Logan O’Hoppe Opens Up About What It Was Like to Catch Shohei Ohtani

Shohei Ohtani is no longer a member of the Los Angeles Angels, but the team doesn’t have time to dwell on that fact. They want to put together a competitive roster for next season, even if it may prove difficult without their two-way superstar.

Even though Ohtani will no longer be with the team, the Angels' players aren't taking his time with the organization for granted. This is especially true for the guys who worked directly with him, including young catcher Logan O’Hoppe.

O’Hoppe opened up about what it was like to catch Ohtani, even in a short amount of time. Hfe understood the type of player that he was around.

“Super detailed. The meetings are long but I don’t take a second for granted. It’s fun to listen how he goes about it and learning from him.”

If anything, O’Hoppe can take what he learned from Ohtani to help him continue improving his own game. Ohtani is one of the smartest players in the league, so O’Hoppe must have learned some things from him during their time together.

Players like Ohtani tend to rub off on others around them, and O’Hoppe will be no different. He will be a better player for the time spent with the two-way superstar.

He is already one of the Angels' most exciting young players, and he will be looking to improve on his 2023 season. O’Hoppe hit. 236 with 14 home runs and 29 runs batted in over 51 games. He missed a good chunk of time due to injury, but came back strong down the stretch of the season.

The Halos view O'Hoppe as their catcher of the future. After trading Max Stassi to the Atlanta Braves, O'Hoppe figures to get every opportunity to succeed this coming year.
