Joe Barlow Working Way Back From Injury
USA TODAY Sports

ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Rangers pitcher Joe Barlow threw a batting practice session before Saturday’s 16-6 win over the Seattle Mariners, a sign that he’s recovering from the kidney stones that put him on the injured list.

The Rangers put Barlow on the 15-day injured list on May 30, retroactive to May 29. He’s not eligible to be activated until June 13. But Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Barlow looked good throwing BP to both Ezequiel Duran and Josh Smith.

“He passed that stone and I’m sure nobody had more relief that he did,” Bochy said with a bit of a smile. “He was not looking good. I mean that thing beat him up pretty good. But he looked healthy out there. And it was good to gives some work to Smith and Duran.”

Later that afternoon, Duran was activated from the injured list and started for the Rangers in left field.

Barlow did not make the Opening Day roster and spent the early part of the season with Triple-A Round Rock. The Rangers called him up as bullpen help when Cody Bradford was sent back to Round Rock on May 16.

Barlow got in five appearances with the Rangers before going on the injured list. He had a 5.40 ERA in 3 1/3 innings pitched, giving up four hits and two runs, with a walk and two strikeouts.
