Jesse Chavez takes comebacker off of leg, comes out of game
USA TODAY Sports

Atlanta's potentially lost one of their most impactful relievers to an injury.

Reliever Jesse Chavez, the 39 year-old veteran with a 1.55 ERA, took a 99mph groundball off of the side of the shin in the bottom of the 6th inning in today's game. The veteran stayed down for a while before being helped to his feet and eventually carried off the mound, unable to put weight on the leg.

Here's the video of the play:

Chavez took the Miguel Cabrera comebacker square on the side of the left shin, on one hop. Detroit being one of the only parks in MLB that still has the "keyhole" dirt path from home to the mound, there was no grass to slow the ball down and Chavez took it flush on the shin.

Kirby Yates entered the game after Chavez's injury.

We'll update with more information as we get it.
