Instant Reaction: Big day from Justin Turner leads Blue Jays to rubber match win over Colorado
? John E. Sokolowski - USA Today

The Blue Jays win streak now sits at two games!

On Sunday afternoon, the Blue Jays hosted the Colorado Rockies in the rubber match of their three-game series, shutting out one of the worst teams in baseball 5-0.

Justin Turner had a massive impact on this game, as he singled in a run in the bottom of the first for the game-winning run, and hit a double in the bottom of the third to score Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (who had just made it a 2-0 lead), giving the Jays some extra insurance runs.

He then singled again in the bottom of the fifth, giving the Jays a 4-0 lead. Of course, he was caught stealing second, so he wasn’t perfect, but a 3-4 night with 3 RBIs is pretty darn good.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa hit a single in the bottom of the eighth to give the Jays a 5-0 lead, the final score of the game.

Things worth mentioning….

Justin Turner is now batting .386/.481/.514 with a home run and eight RBIs in 54 plate appearances this season for a 219 wRC+. Already, this signing is looking like a fantastic one as he is a clutch hitter, something the Jays desperately needed last season.

Alejandro Kirk had a sneakily good game as well, walking twice and hitting two singles. He’s now up to a .170/.259/.170 slash line with an 11.1 BB% and a 34 wRC+. Not great, but when Danny Jansen returns it will help give him a rest.

José Berríos may be an early contender for the American League Cy Young award. He finished with a line of 7 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, bringing his season ERA to 1.05 and his FIP to 3.67 in 25.2 innings pitched.

Up next: In the final series of the road trip, the Yankees defeated the Blue Jays in two of the three games, but the Jays will have a chance to redeem themselves on Monday. The Yankees are in town for a three-game set, with Chris Bassitt on the mound against Luis Gil. It’ll be a fun one, and taking two of three will help their chances of getting back on track!
