Giants legend Buster Posey moving back to Bay Area

“As Posey explained, it took a year away for the family to realize the Bay Area had become the place that truly felt like home,” Baggarly wrote. “It’s where both their sets of twins were born. So they loaded up the moving truck last week. It’ll give Posey the opportunity to see more Giants games from the stands.”

The news was initially mentioned during former Giants manager and current Texas Rangers skipper Bruce Bochy’s KNBR radio interview on Friday morning. When asked by the “Murph and Mac” show about staying in touch with Posey, Bochy said it’s been a little while since the two have spoken, but he’s heard about Posey’s plan to move back to the Bay Area.

During his retirement press conference following the 2021 season, Posey and his wife Kristen expressed interest in moving with their four children back to Georgia to be closer to their families.

“We've been on one coast, they've been on another coast, really since 2008 when I was drafted,” Posey told reporters at the time. “So we're definitely excited (about that). Because of COVID, there's a niece that we still haven't met yet. A lot of my family haven't met our twin girls. And it's like a lot of families, I'm sure, that are separated. COVID made it harder for people to see each other. So we're very excited about being closer and being able to spend time with them.”

Liquidating their local properties, the family listed their six-bedroom Lafayette house for $7.5 million in March 2022 and achieved an off-market sale at $9.28 million. They followed suit a month later by listing an 106-acre ranch in Oroville for $3.9 million.

The recent change of heart from the Poseys resulted in the family selling their Atlanta suburb home for around $3.85 million last month, according to Realtor.com.

Posey joined the Giants ownership group in September 2022 and serves as a principal partner, sitting on a six-person board of directors. He’s been involved in the decision-making process from a distance –– frequent visits to San Francisco were mixed in –– but the full-time move west could set the table for Posey’s influence around the organization to be much wider.

Since he’s been a core element in the Giants organization, Posey has been around during several offseason recruitments of free agents. Even after his retirement, he was remotely involved in the club’s most recent pursuit of Aaron Judge and Carlos Correa this past offseason.

Buster Posey, 36, has been spotted multiple times at Oracle Park on occasion this season, sitting in seats adjacent to the SF Giants dugout with chairman Greg Johnson.
