Francisco Lindor after tying Mets records: 'I’m here to try to win a World Series'

It doesn't seem like all that long ago when New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor said before last month's All-Star break that he thought he had "an 'OK' first half" of the 2022 MLB season and that he'd give himself an overall 'B' grade for his contributions from the spring through the middle of July.

Things have only gotten better for Lindor and company since then.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Mets pummeled the Cincinnati Reds to the tune of 10-2 to finish a series sweep at Citi Field, earn a sixth-consecutive victory, and increase their National-League-East lead over the second-place Atlanta Braves to seven-and-a-half games before the evening's action.

As Danny Abriano noted for SNY, Lindor also made some history in Wednesday's win. He tied a franchise record held by former captain David Wright by scoring a run in a 13th consecutive game and later reached 81 RBI to equal the mark held by Jose Reyes for most single-season RBI collected by a Mets shortstop.

Lindor spoke with reporters following Wednesday's result and made it clear he's keeping his eyes on the prize:

"It's a blessing whenever you can do something cool. To be next to Reyes, someone I grew up watching, it’s great, but I’m here to try to win a World Series," Lindor remarked. "That’s all I have in mind. Along the way, things like this are gonna happen, and I thank the good lord for it."

The four-time All-Star selection began Wednesday slashing .268/.344/.462 with 20 home runs to go along with his 81 RBI. Abriano projects Lindor is on track to finish regular-season play with approximately 30 homers and 115 RBI.

As for the Mets, they'll enjoy an off day before they host the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies in Friday's series-opener at Citi Field.
