Former Seattle Mariners' Top Prospect Already Experiencing Injury Issues in New Organization
USA TODAY Sports

Former Seattle Mariners top prospect Evan White just cannot catch a break when it comes to his health.

The oft-injured first baseman, who won a Gold Glove during the COVID 2020 season, is now playing with the Los Angeles Angels and is reportedly still dealing with his problems stemming from a hip surgery he had last May.

The Angels said on their medical report:

Evan White (left hip/groin soreness) -  experienced soreness in left hip from May 2023 surgery. Plan to resume limited on field activity Monday 2/26.

Supposed to be a huge part of their organizational rebuild, White was a first-round pick of the M's in 2017 and signed a six-year contract before ever even stepping foot on a major league field. In addition to his 2020 Gold Glove, he was the team's cleanup hitter on Opening Day 2021.

But then, an unfortunate spate of injuries happened and White hasn't been on a major league diamond since. He had a hip flexor injury in 2021 which caused him to only play 30 games that year.

He underwent surgery for a sports hernia in March of 2022 and was pulled multiple times from rehab assignments. He came into 2023 with optimism and started the year at AAA, only to suffer another setback, which is he clearly currently not fully recovered from.

White is a career .165 hitter with 10 home runs in 279 at-bats. If he can stay healthy, he can provide the Angels some depth at first base, but he's more than likely ticketed for Triple-A.
