Former Seattle Mariners, Milwaukee Brewers Reliever Inks Deal with American League Team
USA TODAY Sports

Former Seattle Mariners and Milwaukee Brewers ' reliever Trevor Gott has agreed to terms with the Oakland Athletics.

Per Ken Rosenthal of 'The Athletic.'

The 31-year-old should get an opportunity to be a high-leverage reliever for the Athletics, given that previous closer Trevor May has announced his retirement this offseason. However, there's the question of just how many high-leverage situations the A's will actually be in, given that they lost the most games in baseball in 2023 and appear headed for a similar fate in 2024.

This is one of the last seasons for the A's in the Bay Area, as they are moving to Las Vegas in the coming years.

Gott began his career in 2015 with the Los Angeles Angels before moving onto the Washington Nationals and San Francisco Giants. He went 7-0 for the Giants in 2019. In 2022, he threw 45 games for the Brewers, acting as one of their most-used bullpen arms.

Finally, he went to Seattle in 2023 and pitched in 30 games. He was eventually traded to the New York Mets and finished the year with them, making 34 appearances.

Lifetime, he's 16-15 over eight years. He owns a 4.65 ERA over 255 games.

He features a low-90s fastball and a good cutter, which is something he features regularly. We will have to see how the bullpen battles shake out for manager Mark Kotsay in Oakland but Gott could find himself in that closer's role soon enough.
