Former Mets Reliever Agrees With A's

A former New York Mets reliever has agreed to a new contract with the Oakland Athletics.

The Athletic reported the deal as Trevor Gott agreed to a Major League deal with Oakland for 2024. Oakland had not officially announced the deal.

Gott spent part of 2023 with the Mets, as he went 0-2 with a 4.34 ERA in 34 appearances. He struck out 30 in 29 innings.

He joined the Mets in July via trade, as he and Chris Flexen came to New York from Seattle in a deal for Zach Muckenhirn. The Mets opted to non-tender Gott in November, allowing him to hit free agency. The Mets trimmed several players from the 40-man roster at that deadline, part of a plethora of moves made by new president of baseball operations David Stearns.

Before the Mariners, Gott played for Milwaukee in 2022, the San Francisco Giants (2019-20), the Washington Nationals (2016-18) and the Los Angeles Angels (2015).

For his eight-year career, Gott is 16-15 with a 4.65 ERA in 255 games (all in relief). He has struck out 222 hits in 243.2 innings.

Gott was a sixth-round pick of the San Diego Padres in the 2013 MLB Draft.

In 2014 Gott was part of a deadline deal in which he, along with pitcher Huston Street, went to the Angels for Taylor Lindsey, R. J. Alvarez, José Rondón, and Elliot Morris.

Before turning pro, he played for the University of Kentucky for three years, where he set the Wildcats’ single-season save record (12) and career save record (20) as one of the college game’s best closers.
