Diamondbacks Opening Day Pitching Matchup Against Rockies Announced
Rob Schumacher/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Arizona Diamondbacks’ 2024 opening day starting pitching matchup has been announced. Zac Gallen will take the mound for Arizona, facing off against Kyle Freeland of the Colorado Rockies.

While Gallen held the position of the Diamondbacks’ opening day starter last season, Freeland did not. In 2023, Freeland struggled with a sub-par 5.03 ERA and a 6-14 record.

Throughout his career against the D-backs, Freeland has maintained a 3-8 record with a 5.38 ERA. Last season, Arizona faced Freeland three times, going 2-1 in games which he started.

On the other hand, Zac Gallen, who finished 3rd in Cy Young voting in 2023, has been excellent against the Rockies. Across 12 starts, Gallen boasts a 6-1 record against Colorado, accompanied by an impressive ERA of 2.45. In their sole encounter last season, Gallen pitched a six-inning shutout.

Zooming out, the D-backs enjoyed considerable success against the Rockies in 2023, winning 10 out of 13 matchups.

The first pitch for the Diamondbacks’ opening day encounter with the Colorado Rockies is scheduled for 7:10 PM on March 28th.
