Dansby Swanson Hits First Home Run in a Cubs Uniform on Sunday
Allan Henry-USA TODAY Sports

In Sunday's 5-0 win over the Kansas City Royals, star shortstop Dansby Swanson hit his first home run in a Cubs uniform.

Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson hit his first home run of Spring Training on Sunday. Swanson's first moonshot in a Cubs uniform came in the third inning off of LHP Ryan Yarbrough.

Dansby Swanson was the big-ticket addition for the Cubs in free agency this past winter. Signing a seven-year, $177 million contract with the Cubs, the former Atlanta Brave cemented himself as a cornerstone of the new-look franchise. After a rough start to Spring Training with the bat, Sunday presented the first chance for fans to admire their new shortstop's power.

In 2022, Swanson mashed 25 home runs, two less than his career-high 27 during the 2021 campaign. However, Swanson established a new career high in RBI with 96 in his final season with Atlanta.

Although his bat has taken time to come around in Cactus League play, Swanson's golden glove is still performing at a high level. The 2022 Gold Glove winner continues to show why the Cubs wanted to pair him with former Gold Glove finalist Nico Hoerner. Swanson's bat left much to be desired in Spring Training but should come around back to his career norms during the regular season.
