The big right-hander will start Thursday's series finale against the Nationals.
The Chicago Cubs swapped a pair of pitchers ahead of Thursday's series finale against the Washington Nationals. As Jameson Taillon returns from the injured list, Jeremiah Estrada heads to Triple-A Iowa.
Taillon has missed his last few starts due to a groin injury that sidelined him on April 20 (retroactive to April 17). He will start Thursday's game against the Nationals.
In three starts so far this season, Taillon owns a 4.50 ERA, 10.3 K/9, .263 opponent’s batting average, and a 25.8 strikeout percentage. In his last start before hitting the IL, the righty didn't surrender a run and fanned seven with just two walks across five innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Cubs need a strong outing from Taillon in his return to salvage the series against the Nationals.
Estrada, who is assumed to be a major part of the Cubs’ bullpen this season, posted solid numbers in his short time with the big-league club. In three relief appearances, he allowed zero runs and recorded six strikeouts, three walks, and a .143 opponent’s batting average.
Given his success, Estrada will likely be back in the Cubs’ bullpen sooner rather than later.
The Cubs look to split their four-game series with the Nationals before heading back to Chicago to open a three-game series with the Miami Marlins on Friday.
