Cubs Bullpen Depth Takes Hit Following Player Opt-Out

The Chicago Cubs have lost another bullpen option as one of their pitchers opted out of his minor league deal on Saturday. 

Right-hander Jordan Holloway exercised his opt-out clause on Saturday according to multiple reports. 

Holloway held a 10.29 ERA through 7.0 innings pitched in Triple-A this season. He hasn't looked great, but the righty has a decent pedigree. 

Over the course of three separate seasons, Holloway has compiled a 3.92 ERA over the course of 39.0 innings pitched at the MLB level. He made his MLB debut in 2020 with the Miami Marlins.

The bulk of his Major League innings came during the 2021 MLB season when he threw 36.0 innings of work. 

Chicago may have to look to the trade market if they hope to add depth and rectify their bullpen situation. The Cubs are looking to contend this season and beyond, however the bullpen has been one of the bigger issues that needs to be addressed.
