Cincinnati Reds Activate Nick Senzel, Option Will Benson to Triple-A Louisville
USA TODAY Sports

The Cincinnati Reds activated outfielder Nick Senzel from the 10-day Injured List Thursday afternoon. In a corresponding roster move, the club has sent down outfielder Will Benson to Triple-A Louisville. The Reds announced the roster moves on Twitter Thursday afternoon, prior to the Reds' first game of a four-game series at the Great American Ballpark against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Senzel will bat sixth and play center field in Thursday's game. It is his first game of the 2023 Major League season.

Since making his Major League debut in 2019, Senzel injuries have limited the amount of time he has been able to spend on the field. Senzel played 110 games last season, the highest total he has posted in a single-season in his four-year Major League career.

Since opening the season 3-1, the Reds have dropped six of their last seven. They enter Thursday standing at 4-7. The Reds lost 100 games in 2022, tying for fourth in the National League Central with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Cincinnati won 83 games a year prior, posting their first winning season in a full, 162-game season since 2013, when they won 90 games under manager Dusty Baker and lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the National League Wild Card game.

The Phillies are also off to a lackluster start, entering play Thursday at 4-8. The Phillies went on a miraculous run to the World Series last fall, winning their first National League Pennant since 2009. The club signed star shortstop Trea Turner over the winter, in hopes of taking the next step and bringing a championship to the city of Philadelphia.
