Chicago White Sox' GM Makes Shockingly Honest Comments About Current Team

Speaking at the General Managers Meetings in Arizona this week, new Chicago White Sox GM Chris Getz made a shockingly honest revelation about his ballclub.

While the rookie baseball ops leader emphasized that there are winning pieces on the roster, he also acknowledged that on the whole, “I don’t like our team,” adding that it’s “not a well-rounded club” — a blunt recognition that broad changes are needed (link via Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times).

Give Getz bonus points for honestly, I guess. While it may be tough for fans to hear from a front office executive, he's not necessarily wrong. The White Sox are armed with a former Cy Young candidate in Dylan Cease and an All-Star in Luis Robert Jr. Former top prospect Yoan Moncada is still on the roster as well, as is slugger Eloy Jimenez.

That said, the team finished with the third-worst record in the American League and was only ahead of the lowly Royals in the American League Central. In addition to these comments, Getz also said that there were no "untouchables" on the roster this winter, meaning that he'll field calls on Cease and Robert Jr. He did say that he won't be proactive in shopping Robert Jr., but he will listen.

The White Sox have indicated they aren't looking for a long rebuild, so perhaps they'll be active on the free agent market with the hope of building a representative club in 2024.
