Brewers' Freddy Peralta expected to start Wednesday

On the day of the trade deadline, the Brewers made a huge announcement that didn’t involve an acquisition. The Brewers are getting Freddy Peralta back from the 60-day IL after he suffered a shoulder injury in May. Peralta will take the mound on Wednesday against the Pirates.

What Does Getting Peralta Back Mean?

The Brewers have been hit with injuries hard this season, but recently things have been looking up. Milwaukee has all of their preferred starting position players back and healthy, and getting Peralta back is a huge addition to the pitching staff. The Brewers will add the 2021 All-Star back into the rotation that now includes:

  • Corbin Burnes
  • Brandon Woodruff
  • Freddy Peralta
  • Eric Lauer
  • Aaron Ashby

The Brewers also added Matt Bush, Taylor Rogers and Dinelson Lamet to the bullpen via trades, but lost Josh Hader. Getting Peralta back will add another starter who will be able to go deep in games and ease the load on the bullpen.

How Good Will Peralta Be?

Before his injury, Peralta had eight starts under his belt, had a 4.42 ERA and picked up three wins. Peralta’s ERA was a little high to start the season, but so was Brandon Woodruff’s. Woodruff came back and played great and lowered his ERA. Peralta will look to do the same. He had racked up 50 strikeouts before he got hurt and will be a huge factor in the Brewers’ postseason aspirations.

The 2021 All-Star will probably be limited in his first outing after throwing 52 pitches in his rehab start, but having him back instantly improves the Brewers’ already great pitching.
