Brandon Pfaadt Dominates with Career-High 11 Ks as Diamondbacks Beat Mariners to Avoid Sweep
Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

Brandon Pfaadt delivered a career-high 11 strikeouts in the Diamondbacks’ narrow 3-2 victory over the Mariners, helping Arizona evade a series sweep and conclude their 10-game road trip on a high note.

Former Diamondback Josh Rojas put Seattle ahead early with his second home run of the series in the 1st inning.

However, Christian Walker responded swiftly with a towering 422-foot home run in the 2nd inning to level the score.

In the 7th inning, Eugenio Suarez, who played the last two seasons with Seattle, laced a double to the warning track to drive in Joc Pederson, tying the game once more.

Ketel Marte delivered the go-ahead shot in the 8th with a two-out double. Marte came just two feet shy of clearing the fence in left field.

After Pfaadt’s exit in the seventh, the Diamondbacks’ bullpen delivered, a stark contrast to their performance in the previous two games where they allowed multiple runs. Joe Mantiply , Ryan Thompson, and Kevin Ginkel combined for a perfect final three innings, striking out four and allowing no baserunners.

Overall, the Diamondbacks’ pitching staff picked up 14 strikeouts.

Following a Mariners’ run in the third inning, Seattle batters went hitless in their next 20 at-bats, which enabled Arizona to break a three-game losing streak.

The Diamondbacks now return home to face their NL West rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers, with the series opener scheduled for tomorrow night at 6:40 pm.
