Arizona Diamondbacks claim C Seby Zavala off waivers, designate Buddy Kennedy for assignment
Andrew Dieb-USA TODAY Sports

Ahead of their series finale against Colorado, the Arizona Diamondbacks have claimed C Seby Zavala off waivers. In return, the Diamondbacks designated Buddy Kennedy for assignment.

Seby Zavala was drafted in the 12th round of the 2015 draft by the Chicago White Sox. Since then, Zavala has played all four seasons of his MLB career in Chicago.

However, his constant struggle at the plate has limited his playing time quite a bit. This season, Zavala holds a .155 batting average through 161 at-bats. He has also struck out 68 times, which is around 40% of his plate appearances.

Because of this, the 30-year-old catcher was released by the White Sox on September 4th.

On the flip side, Buddy Kennedy played in 30 games for the Diamondbacks last year and an additional 10 this season. Recently, Kennedy saw quite a bit of playing time in the month of August.

Unfortunately, just like Seby Zavala, Kennedy failed to find any sort of offensive rhythm, leading to him ending the month 4/24 at the plate.

Immediately after this move was announced by the Diamondbacks, fans quickly shared their disapproval.

This criticism of the move was more centered on the fact that the Dbacks seem to refuse to call up former 1st-round pick Jordan Lawlar.

With the Aces this season, Lawlar is slashing .358, however, contrary to fan demands, the Diamondbacks remain hesitant to bring up their top prospect.

Stay tuned for further updates.
