Angels Second-Year Starter Labeled Breakout Player for 2024

The Los Angeles Angels roster doesn't pop off the page like some others around the league, but it isn't too shabby either. They have some young players on the team who reached the majors more quickly than expected, and have the potential to take another leap forward in 2024.

MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger selected young catcher Logan O'Hoppe as the breakout player for the Angels in 2024. O'Hoppe, 23, showed signs of his skillset last season and is ready to go to the next level.

"O’Hoppe is primed to be the future face of the franchise, as he’s coming off a strong rookie year and possesses strong leadership and clubhouse skills. The Angels also traded veteran Max Stassi, which allows O’Hoppe to be the club’s primary catcher with Matt Thaiss serving as his backup. There’s a chance the Angels add a veteran as insurance but O’Hoppe will be the club’s regular catcher and had strong numbers in September after missing several months because of shoulder surgery in April. O’Hoppe had an .897 OPS with nine homers and 15 RBIs in 26 games over the final month of the season to finish the year on a high note."

O'Hoppe hit .236 with 14 home runs and 29 runs batted in last season. He was limited to just 51 games due to injury, so all parties are looking forward to a much better 2024.

The young catcher showed off some of his power abilities toward the end of the season, hitting nine home runs in the month of September. That was tied for the third-most home runs in a month by an Angels rookie.

September marked the first time that we saw raw power from O'Hoppe, and the team is hoping for more in 2024. He gives them a solid bat in the middle of the lineup, and is determined to produce even stronger next year. 

O'Hoppe represents the future of the Halos organization at the catching spot, so the pressure will surely be on him. This offseason is crucial for his development, but he seems up for the challenges ahead.
