Angels Predicted to Land Mid-Tier Starting Pitcher Coming Off Solid Season

The Los Angeles Angels have spent a majority of this offseason being linked to free agent starting pitchers, but have yet to land one outside of swingman Zach Plesac. As many of the top names are starting to come off the market, perhaps one veteran pitcher could reunite with the club that drafted him in 2011.

Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report recently predicted where some of the free agent pitchers will sign this season, and he had the Angels signing right-handed pitcher Mike Clevinger to a two-year, $26 million deal.

Clevinger is two years removed from Tommy John surgery in 2021, and is coming off a productive year with the Chicago White Sox. He went 9-9 with a 3.77 ERA and 110 strikeouts while pitching in 131.1 innings.

The 33-year-old would be a very solid mid-rotation piece for the Angels, a team desperate for starting pitching help.

The Angels have been heavily linked to Clevinger's former San Diego Padres teammate, Blake Snell, this offseason.

While Clevinger is not on Snell's level, he would come a whole lot cheaper than his former teammate looking for over $200 million on the open market.

Maybe the Angels could even reunite them both in Anaheim this year.
