Angels' LHP to Undergo Tommy John Surgery, Out Indefinitely
USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Angels received some unfortunate news on Wednesday after a couple of days in which pitcher Jose Quijada was traveling to different doctors trying to figure out what was wrong with his elbow.

He had woken up randomly one morning and felt pain and inflammation in it. Unfortunately, it has now been confirmed that Tommy John surgery will be needed and he'll be out for the rest of the year.

The Athletic's Sam Blum was the first to report this news.

"José Quijada will need Tommy John surgery, Phil Nevin said. He’ll miss the rest of the season, but they hope he’ll return at some point next year."

The initial evaluation for Quijada showed that he had some structural damage to the ligaments in his elbow and it caused fear around the organization. Despite this, team manager Phil Nevin was still holding out hope that he would be okay.

Quijada showcased some great moments during the 2023 World Baseball Classic for Venezuela and Angels fans were very excited to see what he could bring for them in 2023. In ten games with the Halos this season, he was posting a 6.00 ERA while only striking out eight batters.

This is horrible news to hear and we wish Quijada the speediest recover possible.
