Angels GM Says Halos Not Actively Looking to Add Catcher This Offseason
USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Angels have a lot of work to do this offseason as they try to put together a competitive team for 2024. The Halos missed the playoffs yet again in 2023, and are determined to finally break their long drought.

They are looking all over the place to improve their roster, and they plan to be aggressive in doing so. Nothing is off limits, but the team did make it known that they aren't targeting one specific position.

Angels general manager Perry Minasian said that the team is not actively looking at upgrading the catching position this winter. The team had reportedly had an interest in bringing in a more veteran catcher, but the team seems settled with who they have right now.

They have Logan O'Hoppe, Max Stassi and Matt Thaiss behind the plate for the coming year, but each of them has some questions around them. However, the Angels likely see O'Hoppe as their franchise catcher, so making sure he is in the best possible situation to find success will be important.

O'Hoppe only played in 51 games for the Halos last season due to injury but produced well when on the field. He hit .236 with 14 home runs and 29 runs batted in.

Stassi and Thaiss both are more depth pieces and could be used in potential trades this winter. Minasian also said that the team could be active on the trade market, and they have a few catchers to spare.

"We have to explore the trade market, maybe more than we have in the past. There are some interesting names on the trade front that we’ve had discussions about."

We are at the start of what should be a very interesting offseason for the Angels. They have a lot of work to do, but they seem hopeful that the future will be much brighter than it has been.
