Andrew Heaney vs. Joe Mantiply in Game 4 of the World Series

Following Max Scherzer’s early exit from Monday’s game due to back tightness, the Rangers found themselves turning to their bullpen earlier than anticipated.

This situation prompted them to call upon Jon Gray for an extended relief appearance.

Jon Gray was initially the Rangers expected starter for Game 3.

However, the impromptu decision proved beneficial for Texas, as Gray delivered three scoreless innings in relief.

Now, looking ahead to Game 4, the Rangers will entrust left-handed pitcher Andrew Heaney to secure a 3-1 series lead.

Heaney, a 32-year-old veteran, spent his first full season with the Rangers in 2023, making 28 starts and achieving a 10-6 record with a 4.15 ERA.

In the postseason thus far, Heaney has allowed four earned runs through six innings.

He also faced the Diamondbacks earlier this year, experiencing a challenging outing in May when he allowed six earned runs, four walks, and three home runs.

On the Diamondbacks’ side, Joe Mantiply will serve as the starting pitcher, marking a bullpen game.

The last time the Diamondbacks opted for a bullpen game in this postseason was during the NLCS, with Mantiply pitching only the first inning in that start.

First pitch for this pivotal Game 4 matchup between the Diamondbacks and the Rangers is scheduled for 5:03 PM Arizona time.
