2023 MLB awards betting preview: AL Cy Young

With spring training approaching, it's time to start thinking about 2023 MLB future bets. With most sportsbooks offering odds on award winners, we dive into the AL Cy Young market.

The odds listed are from FanDuel Sportsbook.

American League Cy Young

Jacob DeGrom, Texas Rangers, (+500)

The 2023 AL Cy Young favorite spent his first nine seasons in the National League with the New York Mets. In the offseason, DeGrom signed a five-year, $185 million with the Rangers.

After winning back-to-back Cy Young awards in 2018-19, he has struggled with injuries, making only 38 starts the past three years. In those starts, he went 16-8 with a 2.06 ERA.

Shohei Ohtani, Los Angeles Angels, (+1200)

Ohtani pitched lights-out in 2022, going 15-9 with a 2.33 ERA and 219 strikeouts in only 166 innings. He was top 10 in the majors in wins, ERA and strikeouts. He is always looking for ways to improve and has the motivation to do even better this year after missing out on major awards in 2022.

“I know he’s determined to have an even better year from last year," Angels manager Phil Nevin said recently. "He wasn’t happy about not winning the MVP."

Shane Bieber, Cleveland Guardians, (+2400)

The 2020 AL Cy Young winner, Bieber had an injury-shortened 2021 season but bounced back big in 2022, posting a 13-8 record with a 2.88 ERA and 198 strikeouts. He had a 2.48 ERA and nine wins in the second half, showing ability to go deep in the season and still be dominant.
