Tributes Pour in for former Irish Rugby Player Gary Halpin

Former Irish, Leinster and London Irish Rugby player Gary Halpin has sadly passed away and the tributes have poured in for the popular rugby man.

The College community of staff, students, parents and monks were devastated this morning on hearing of the sudden death of our much loved colleague and friend Gary Halpin RIP.

Everyone at Irish Rugby is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former Ireland international Gary Halpin.

Gary won 11 Test caps, representing Ireland at the 1991 and 1995 Rugby World Cups.

The Kilkenny native made his international debut against England in 1990. He represented Ireland 11 times and also featured at the 1991/95 Rugby World Cup’s, for the past number of years he was head of games in Cistercian College Roscrea. He will be sadly missed by everyone at CCR and all his family and friends.

He was a fine tightwad prop in his time playing International rugby and playing for Leinster and having spells with London Irish and Harlequins in England. He passes away at age 55 still very young to go, he also represented Ireland in the hammer throw at the 1987 World Athletics Championship. An all round talented individual and his legacy will carry on for anyone that know him and he will be fondly remembered
