Tiger Woods joins PGA Tour Policy Board as a ‘Player Director’

Tiger Woods is taking on a new role within the PGA Tour. The 15-time major champion has joined the league’s Policy Board as the sixth Player Director. The Tour released a statement regarding the update on Tuesday.

“PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan and the TOUR’s player members, Player Directors and Player Advisory Council members have announced a new agreement to ensure that the TOUR lives up to its mission of being a player-driven organization, ‘for the players, by the players,'” the statement said.

“As part of the new transparency and governance measures in the agreement, Tiger Woods has agreed to join the TOUR Policy Board as a sixth Player Director. The TOUR’s new Board will include six Player Directors, five Independent Directors and the PGA of America Director.”

Woods joins a Player Directors group that includes Patrick Cantlay, Charley Hoffman, Peter Malnati, Rory McIlroy and Webb Simpson. As part of the PGA Tour’s announcement, Woods also released a statement.

“I am honored to represent the players of the PGA TOUR. This is a critical point for the TOUR, and the players will do their best to make certain that any changes that are made in TOUR operations are in the best interest of all TOUR stakeholders, including fans, sponsors and players,” Woods said.

“The players thank Commissioner Monahan for agreeing to address our concerns, and we look forward to being at the table with him to make the right decisions for the future of the game that we all love. He has my confidence moving forward with these changes.”

Tiger Woods missed most of 2023 PGA Tour season

While Woods hasn’t exactly given up golf, his time on the course has been limited recently. The PGA Tour star missed most of the 2023 season because of injury.

Woods participated in just two major events this year — the Genesis Open and The Masters. He finished Genesis in a tie for 45th place, shooting -1 for the tournament.

He made the cut at The Masters but injuries forced him to withdraw during the third round. Even though his time at Augusta was limited, Woods still managed to make course history.

Woods made the cut for the 23rd consecutive time in 2023. That impressive feat tied Gary Player and Fred Couples for most in the tournament’s history. If he makes it on his next visit to Augusta, he will own the record.
