Scottie Scheffler is new favorite to win the Masters

Prior to the Players Championship last week, Scottie Scheffler's odds to win the Masters were good -- but not great. But that has changed following his dominant victory at TPC Sawgrass over the weekend. The new World No. 1's five-stroke lead at the end of the weekend has oddsmakers singing a different tune.

BetMGM now lists Scheffler as the co-favorite to win at Augusta National in April at 8-1 odds, alongside the world's second-ranked golfer Jon Rahm. That's a big jump for Scheffler, who was previously listed behind Rahm and Rory McIlroy to win the Masters next month.

Prior to last weekend, Rahm and McIlroy were clear favorites over Scheffler to rock the green jacket at Augusta. But after Rahm withdrew from the Players Championship due to illness and McIlroy missed the cut, Scheffler was able to move back into favor with oddsmakers.

It would also be an incredible feat if Scheffler was to win back-to-back Masters. The last golfer to win at Augusta in consecutive seasons was -- surprise surprise -- Tiger Woods in 2001 and 2002. (Woods, for the record, is listed at 40-1 on the Masters' field.)

The 2023 Masters tees off on April 6.
