PGA 2022: WGC Dell Match Play betting preview

This is the PGA Tour's lone match play event of the season, so things are a little different this week.

For an event like this, an elite field is even more interesting, and that is what we are getting with 64 of the top 69 golfers in the World Rankings participating this week.

This event is unique with foursomes heading out on Wednesday for match play. For other events, the sportsbooks create head to head matchups that we can bet on but for this event the Tournament will be doing it itself. The change in style is a big reason we see Jon Rahm, the best player in the world at +1400 when most weeks he is under +1000.

Players are seeded for this even to try and make things as equal as possible, but last year the 30th and 32nd seeds met in the final.

The format for this week is a little confusing, so you can be excused if you are holding your winnings to put them back into the market once the NCAA Tournament resumes on Thursday.

Top Odds

  • Jon Rahm +1400
  • Justin Thomas +1600
  • Viktor Hovland +1800
  • Scottie Scheffler +2000
  • Collin Morikawa +2200
  • Patrick Cantlay +2200
  • Dustin Johnson +2200
  • Xander Schauffele +2500
  • Billy Horschel +2800
  • Daniel Berger +2800
  • Tyrrell Hatton +3000
  • Louis Oosthuizen +3000

Bets to Consider

Max Homa to Win Group 8 (+230)

The rest of Group 8: Dustin Johnson, Matthew Wolff, Mackenzie Hughes.

The big name in this group is Dustin Johnson so Homa is a little under the radar even though he is good form right now. He has four straight top 20 finishes and if he plays at that level to start this Tournament, he should advance.

Justin Thomas to Advance to the Final Four (+500)

Yes, there is a Final Four for this event too. Thomas is near to the top of the odds table and definitely worth the risk to get to this stage. He has been playing great but not getting the wins. With this bet he can continue with that and get us a nice payoff.

Brooks Koepka +3300

Koepka is as talented as any player on the tour. When his value sneaks up to this range he is always worth a flyer because his best game is truly elite. Over his past five events he has two missed cuts and three top 20 finishes. Now is the time to buy low.

Cameron Young +10000

This one is a major longshot as Young is in the same group as Jon Rahm and thus unlikely to advance past the group stage. Nevertheless, there is some value in this bet because if he does win the group it means he is playing some great golf and his toughest challenge might be behind him,
