Greg Norman makes ridiculous claims in latest comments on the LIV Golf-PGA Tour debate

Before you go to sleep tonight, don't forget to pray for the poor, "suffering" members of LIV Golf.

"These guys don't need to suffer," Greg Norman told reporters on Wednesday, with no hint of self-awareness.

"LIV is the source of good," he added moments later.

Of course, no one in LIV Golf is suffering. Per Spotrac, the lowest earner on the circuit this year, Andy Ogletree, earned $132,000 after finishing 41st in one event. Every other player this year has earned at least $400,000 through three events.

His claim of the tour also being a source of good is certainly up for debate. Detractors argue that what's more likely is the Saudi Arabian-backed LIV Golf is a means for the country to sportswash its appalling history of human rights violations.

Also during his comments, he discussed this year's Masters — where LIV Golf tour members participated — noting a spike in TV ratings and what it means going forward.

"And you don't think CBS, NBC, you don't think the corporations who sponsor those major championships don't want Cam Smith?" Norman asked.

Networks probably would love to market Smith, and they will.

In February, the PGA Tour announced members of LIV Golf, including Smith, may participate in this year's majors. The future is more uncertain but with promising young PGA Tour members including amateur Sam Bennett and Tom Kim, the tour has no shortage of potential stars.

Litigation is ongoing, but that was spurred on by an antitrust lawsuit by LIV Golfers including Phil Mickelson in August last year. A month later, the PGA Tour countersued. In February 2023, a federal judge ruled Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund and its governor, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, could be added as co-defendants.

The legal saga will play out at its own pace, and the outcome is impossible to predict. What we know with much more certainty is that the players will be perfectly fine.
