Golfer Cameron Champ believes he had false positive COVID-19 test

PGA Tour golfer Cameron Champ isn't convinced he had the coronavirus when he withdrew from the Travelers Championship last week.

The 25-year-old was able to participate in the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit under a modified PGA Tour policy that allows players who test positive for the coronavirus to be eligible if they had no symptoms and got two negative tests at least 24 hours apart.

Champ now says that even though he tested positive ahead of the Travelers Championship, that it probably was a false positive.

"Through the specialist that we worked with, at this point it's clear that I never had it,'' Champ said, according to Yahoo Sports. ''Still being precautious because if I happen to do get it, then it affects my family deeply.''

Champ is among six players and two caddies who have tested positive since the PGA Tour resumed four weeks ago.

Brooks Koepka's caddie Ricky Elliott tested positive before the Travelers last week and then had a negative test. Graeme McDowell's caddie also tested positive for the virus, resulting in his withdrawing from the Travelers. 

Champ currently is tied for 19th place in the Rocket Mortgage Classic. The tournament ends on July 5.
